Former Xdinary Heroes leader Gunil admitted to making insulting remarks toward fans and confirmed his contract with JYP Entertainment had been terminated.
The remarks, however, had been directed at “sasaeng fans,” or obsessive fans who invade celebrities’ privacy, he explained.
Gunil wrote on a fan communication platform Thursday that he had suffered from invasions of privacy by sasaeng fans earlier this year, including an intrusion into the group’s residence and the placement of a tracking device on a vehicle.
He said he had also been struggling emotionally with malicious comments following the band’s June concerts.
He stressed that his remarks were not aimed at the group’s fans as a whole, but at “some malicious fans who invaded my privacy and left indiscriminate hateful comments.”
However, he added that “the fact that I made those remarks doesn’t change, regardless of my intentions. I’m sorry to everyone who was disappointed or hurt by my remarks.”
JYP Entertainment announced Thursday that it had terminated its exclusive contract with Gunil under mutual agreement.
Xdinary Heroes will now continue activities as a five-member band. The group also canceled its scheduled appearances at the Japanese music festival Summer Sonic 2026 on Friday and Sunday.
“During my time with Xdinary Heroes, I sincerely cared for and loved the members and was always grateful for the love Villains gave us,” Gunil said, referring to the band’s fandom. He also asked fans to continue supporting the remaining members.
“I really wanted to remain a member of XH and protect the six-member team. But I decided to follow the company’s decision,” he added.
