Latest map sorts the capital’s best fall festivals into 4 themes
The Seoul Metropolitan Government released the autumn edition of its citywide festival map, which includes festivals built around fireworks, lighting and live music to keep the fun going after dark.
Seoul hosts more than 300 festivals a year. Fall alone accounts for the largest share, with more than 100 festivals, according to Yun Young-eun, a team leader in the city’s Culture and Arts Division who oversees festival programming. Keeping track of all the events can be challenging, which is why the map narrows its list down to some of the season’s signature events.
Seoul Festival Map — Autumn Edition highlights more than 50 of the season’s festivals, running from September through November, sorted into four themes: night festivals, cultural tourism, performing arts, and traditional and historical festivals.
The city said the nighttime theme, newly introduced this year, is meant to give residents more to do on weeknight evenings and weekends while encouraging visitors to linger longer in festival neighborhoods — a spillover effect it hopes will benefit nearby shops and restaurants.
Notable night festivals include the Seoul World Fireworks Festival, which runs Friday and Saturday at the Yeouido and Ichon Hangang parks, with the United States and the United Kingdom joining this year’s fireworks show alongside audience-participation programs. The 2026 Jandari Festa, a global rock festival, takes over 10 venues in the Hongdae neighborhood from Friday to Sunday, featuring performances and industry conferences with musicians from around the world.
The cultural tourism theme includes the car-free Jamsu Bridge “Ttubeok Ttubeok” Festival, held every Sunday from Sunday to Oct. 25 at Jamsu Bridge and Banpo Hangang Park. Enjoy play and photo zones, a flea market, food trucks and live music set against the Han River’s night skyline and the Moonlight Rainbow Fountain. The Seoul Music Festival brings K-pop, indie and ballad acts to Nodeul Island on Oct. 24.
The performing arts theme centers on the Seoul Autumn Festa, running Sept. 18 to Nov. 29 at Ttukseom Hangang Park and venues across the city. As the season’s largest umbrella program, it links roughly 200 performances and festivals into what organizers describe as a citywide stage. The 2026 Seoul Music Week, Sept. 11-13, brings musicians and music-industry professionals from 15 countries for 30 free performances and global showcases, paired this year with the Nowon Craft Beer Festival.
The traditional and historical theme sends visitors into palaces, hanok villages and historic districts after dark. The 4th World Pansori Festival, Sept. 25-26 at Namsangol Hanok Village and the Seoul Namsan Gugakdang theater, presents pansori performances built around a “barrier-free” approach meant to include audiences of all abilities. The 2026 Seoul Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival, Sept. 12-13 around Namsangol Hanok Village, features performances, hands-on demonstrations and exhibits tied to the city’s intangible heritage.
The city said it plans to keep expanding its seasonal festival guides and developing nighttime events, aiming to link local culture, tourism and commerce more closely. The map is currently available only in Korean, but the city told The Korea Herald it is developing an English edition to make it more accessible to non-Korean speakers. The autumn edition, along with listings from previous seasonal editions, is available on the Smart Seoul Map.
