The Seoul Metropolitan Government will hold a series of job fairs across the city in September, bringing together more than 160 companies seeking to fill around 3,000 positions with middle-aged job seekers.
The fairs are open mainly to people aged 40 to 64 and will offer employment information, one-on-one consultations and on-site interviews, according to the city government on Friday.
The first of the September events will take place at the Seoul 50 Plus Western Campus in Eunpyeong-gu on Tuesday, followed by fairs at the Southern Campus in Guro-gu on Sept. 8, the Northern Campus in Dobong-gu on Sept. 10 and the Central Campus in Mapo-gu on Sept. 17.
The first round of the event held at eastern Seoul job fair on Wednesday, which drew some 800 job seekers.
Among the participating companies are McDonald’s Korea, Hyundai Green Food, Daekyo Educamp, senior care provider Caredoc, ride-hailing platform Tada and KFC Korea. The available positions cover transportation, caregiving, security, food service, marketing, human resources and artificial intelligence development, according to the city government.
“Employment opportunities and the range of occupations available to middle-aged people continue to expand,” said Kang Myung, CEO of the Seoul 50 Plus Foundation, a nonprofit organization funded by the Seoul Metropolitan Government that supports residents aged 40 to 64.
At each venue, applicants will be able to visit individual company booths for consultations and interviews. Some listed employers to the fairs will conduct online recruitment processes.
The fairs will also provide career lectures and employment support programs such as artificial intelligence-assisted career exploration, interview preparation and resume writing.
Seoul’s new policy comes at a time when increasing number of older Koreans are re-entering the workforce. Last year’s report by the Seoul 50 Plus Foundation showed that 82.6 percent of the surveyed individuals aged 40-64 want to get a new job within the next five years.
