South Korean police on Tuesday released footage showing drivers in Seoul making way for an ambulance carrying an emergency patient on one of the city’s busiest roads.
Officers at the Seoul Dongjak Police Station received a report on July 28 that a taxi passenger was coughing up blood during rush hour on Olympic-daero, a major expressway running across Seoul.
According to footage posted on the National Police Agency’s official YouTube channel, officers dispatched to the scene began escorting the ambulance carrying the patient but soon encountered heavy traffic.
Olympic-daero was Seoul’s busiest road in 2025, carrying more vehicles than any other road in the city, according to city data.
Police said navigation data estimated that the 17-kilometer trip to the hospital would take 56 minutes.
A patrol car moved ahead of the ambulance, using a loudspeaker to alert drivers to the emergency and ask them to make way. The footage showed vehicles shifting aside to let the patrol car and ambulance pass, even along a single-lane entrance ramp.
With the cooperation of drivers, police and the ambulance reached the emergency room in just 17 minutes.
Police said the patient was recovering well after receiving timely medical treatment.
