Korean fried chicken chain expands Latin American footprint with first Mexico City store

Korean fried chicken brand Genesis BBQ Group has opened its first store in Mexico, stepping up its expansion across Latin America.

According to BBQ on Monday, it recently opened the BBQ store in the Zona Rosa district, Mexico City, bringing the total number of stores in Latin America to 20. The Korean fried chicken chain also operates stores in Panama, Costa Rica, the Bahamas and Colombia.

The 338-square-meter store spans two floors and a terrace with seating available for 115 customers. As its first base in the Mexican market, BBQ said the newly opened restaurant offers a broader range of food and beverages beyond fried chicken, including meals such as Korean tteokbokki and kimchi fried rice, desserts and Korean and Mexican alcoholic drinks and beverages.

BBQ said it plans to use the Mexico City store as a base for expanding into other major Mexican cities. The company is expected to open its second store in Monterrey in northern Mexico by the end of August.

“Mexico, with a population of around 130 million, is a key consumer market in Latin America, and Mexico City is an important hub for expanding our local business,” a BBQ official said.

“We will expand our operations into major Mexican cities to introduce BBQ’s K-food to more local consumers and continue strengthening our brand competitiveness in the local market.”
