Search of island uncovers 4 bodies in 3 days, all reported missing
A man presumed to be in his 70s was found dead in waters off Jeju City on Sunday, the Coast Guard said Monday, marking yet another case where a person reported to be missing on the island was found dead.
The body was found at 3:04 p.m. by a local fisher. It was later discovered that the deceased had been reported as missing just the previous day.
Four bodies of missing persons have been found on the southern island over the past three days, including a man in his 60s on Saturday, another man in his 60s on Monday and a 37-year-old woman named Jang Mi-ran also on Monday.
The cases of Jang and the man found Saturday are linked to a local police officer surnamed Bu, who is suspected of closing the missing-person cases under false claims. He allegedly pretended to talk to the missing individuals in both cases, saying they did not want to talk to the families that had filed the reports.
