Two bodies were found inside a studio apartment in Gyeonggi Province on Monday, with a preliminary investigation suggesting that one of the deceased killed the other and then took his own life.
Local police found the body of a man in his 60s at his home in Siheung at 8:05 a.m., alongside the body of a woman in her 60s identified as an acquaintance. Officials found a note seemingly written by the man that reportedly centered on the despair he felt.
There was no evidence to suggest a break-in.
Police found the bodies while looking for the woman, who was reported missing by her family at around 8 p.m. Sunday. Officials found surveillance footage showing her entering an alley near the man’s room and went door-to-door looking for her.
Police say it is likely that the man strangled the woman to death and killed himself, based on the state of the bodies. But officials said they remain open to considering all possibilities and will have definitive answers when autopsy results come back from the National Forensic Service.
