The actress joined director Hong Sang-soo for a Q&A for ‘Nowhere to Lay My Eyes,’ which is competing at Locarno Film Festival
Actress Kim Min-hee made her first public appearance since giving birth to her son with director Hong Sang-soo, reflecting on returning to the set after becoming a mother.
Kim and Hong appeared together Thursday at an audience Q&A for Hong’s 35th feature “Nowhere to Lay My Eyes,” which has been selected for the international competition section of the 79th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.
“Nowhere to Lay My Eyes” stars Kim alongside Choi Myung-gil and Kwon Hae-hyo. The film follows Sang-hee (Kim), who travels to Jeju Island to meet her mother for the first time in 10 years. The film will compete for the Golden Leopard at this year’s Locarno Film Festival, which runs through Aug. 15.
During the event, Hong and Kim reportedly answered questions from audience members and reporters, with Kim discussing her experience making her first film since giving birth and continuing to work while caring for her baby on set.
The Locarno selection marks Hong’s fifth invitation to the festival. His previous entries include “Our Sunhi” (2013), “Right Now, Wrong Then” (2015), “Hotel by the River” (2018) and “By the Stream” (2024).
Kim gave birth to the couple’s son in April 2025. She and Hong met while working on his film “Right Now, Wrong Then” and publicly acknowledged their relationship in 2017.
Hong, who was born in 1960, is 22 years older than Kim. He married in 1985 and has a daughter. He filed for divorce in 2016, but the proceedings stalled after his wife declined to accept the divorce papers.
Hong and Kim have been together for nine years.
