BTS’ “Fake Love” has become the group’s sixth music video to surpass 1.4 billion views on YouTube, its agency Big Hit Music said Thursday.
The music video for “Fake Love,” the lead track from the septet’s third studio album, “Love Yourself: Tear,” joins “Dynamite,” “Boy With Luv (feat. Halsey),” “DNA,” “MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix)” and “Idol” among BTS videos with more than 1.4 billion views.
Released in May 2018, “Fake Love” portrays the unraveling of a relationship after realizing that a love once believed to be destined was false. The track blends grunge-rock guitar with a trap beat to create a dark, emo hip-hop sound.
The music video translates the theme through choreography in which the members cover their mouths, eyes and ears, accompanied by elaborate sets and dramatic visuals.
“Love Yourself: Tear” made BTS the first Korean act to top the Billboard 200 and remained on the chart for 16 weeks. “Fake Love” peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 42 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart.
