Daejeon takes steps to secure foothold in global space market

The Daejeon Metropolitan Government is taking steps to secure a foothold in global markets, marking a move in its strategy to nurture this future-oriented sector.

Chang Ho-jong, deputy mayor for economic and scientific affairs, is visiting Sydney and Adelaide, Australia from July 19 to 26 as part of moves to establish a global network in the space sector and pave the way for local companies to enter international markets.

Chang attended a technology exchange meeting at Cicada Innovations in Sydney. The event, which was organized by the New South Wales Government, included discussions on Daejeon’s space industry support policies and strategies for enhancing cooperation and network activation.

Ten Daejeon-based space companies, including Hanwha Aerospace, participated in the event, promoted their technologies and explored market opportunities, engaging with local companies and stakeholders to discuss strategies for entering the global market.

“Australia, with the establishment of the Australian Space Agency (ASA) in 2018 and its operation of the National Space Industry Hub, is a leading nation in aerospace,” said Chang. “Similarly, Daejeon, renowned for its strengths in space and aerospace, demonstrated by the launch of Wooribyeol 1 and Nuri, aims to share Australia’s advanced space expertise. We hope this technology exchange meeting will lay the foundation for collaboration between companies and research institutions from both countries.”

Chang will also visit Macquarie University and the University of Technology Sydney to learn about advanced Australian practices and strengthen global networks for cooperation in the aerospace and defense industries.

At the 17th Australian Space Forum on Wednesday, Chang will arrange meetings between the ten promising Daejeon-based space companies and 26 leading Australian space enterprises. Additionally, through the Daejeon promotional booth, efforts will be made to support the global networking and international market entry of regional space companies.
