The story of a 93-year-old man apologizing to his daughter after asking her to order fried chicken touched hearts online and led to a feast for elderly residents in his neighborhood.
The daughter shared the story on Threads on Sept. 10, recalling how her father called and asked her to order him yangnyeom chicken — Korean-style fried chicken coated in a sweet and spicy sauce.
“I tried to resist, but I keep thinking about it,” he told her, before saying he was sorry for the request.
The daughter said she broke down in tears while placing the order, wondering how long her father must have hesitated before calling her over a single order of fried chicken.
The post received more than 800,000 views within a day. After hearing the story, a fried chicken company sent the daughter vouchers worth 200,000 won ($145), along with words of encouragement.
In a follow-up post uploaded Saturday, the daughter said she used the vouchers to order nine boxes of yangnyeom chicken for elderly residents living near her father’s home ahead of Chuseok. The order totaled 207,000 won, but after learning about the story, the restaurant owner waived the remaining balance.
“They were all so happy,” she wrote. “When I gave the elderly women a hug, they patted me on the back and said, ‘Thank you for taking such good care of your father. You’re wonderful.’ It reminded me of my mother, and I teared up.”
The woman’s father was delighted when he heard about the neighborhood chicken party.
Unfamiliar with social media, he apparently believes his youngest daughter submitted his story to a television or radio program, she wrote.
