DREAMCATCHER cruises with mini-album ‘VirtuouS’ despite roster change

K-pop girl group DREAMCATCHER brings both good and bad news to fans with its latest update. The good news: It has returned with a fresh album. The bad news: It’s temporarily operating as a six-member ensemble due to Siyeon’s health-related hiatus.

The group’s agency, Dreamcatcher Company, said in a press release on July 5 that Siyeon, the group’s vocalist, would be halting her upcoming activities.

According to the label, “Siyeon recently visited the hospital due to symptoms of poor health and anxiety, and the medical staff advised that she needs sufficient rest and stability … After thorough discussions with Siyeon, it was decided that she would focus on her recovery.”

Despite the abrupt roster change, DREAMCATCHER is all set to captivate fans with its new release, “VirtuouS,” with its members transforming into justice-driven heroes.

This latest work, released Wednesday, is the group’s 10th mini-album and comes as it celebrates its seventh year in the music industry. The agency said the remaining six members will promote the album, continuing to showcase their dynamic performances and storytelling.

At a press event held at Ilchi Art Hall in Seoul’s Gangnam District, Wednesday, to celebrate the new release, the six DREAMCATCHER members — JiU, SuA, Handong, Yoohyeon, Dami and Gahyeon — expressed their regret over Siyeon’s absence.

“It would be a lie to say there was no pressure,” said JiU. “Siyeon is an irreplaceable part of our team since she’s responsible for the vocals, and it’s very unfortunate she can’t participate in the activities.”

JiU added, with a touch of support for the absent member, “Nonetheless, the six of us decided to diligently take on our responsibilities, continue what we’ve been doing, and work hard so that when Siyeon returns, she can perform from an even better position.”

The “VirtuouS” mini-album features DREAMCATCHER members embodying heroes who fight against evil with justice and conviction.

“In this album, you can see us as heroes breaking limits and shining brightly. The title track, ‘JUSTICE’ in particular, is very intense, so I think following along with its dance moves will be great for those feeling hot, stuffy and stressed on summer days like this,” SuA said.

“JUSTICE,” the new album’s lead single, features intense electric guitar rock sounds, particularly highlighting the members’ determination as they conceptually battle against evil.

Handong reflected on her approach to recording, that during the process, she asked herself, “Shouldn’t I use a more powerful voice than in previous works?”

“I sang to bring out the rock feeling, which defines this title track … I feel like I’ve discovered a new dimension to my voice,” Handong said.

The album also includes tracks spanning diverse genres, including “Intro: 7′ Dreamcatcher,” “STΦMP!,” “2 Rings” and “Fireflies.”

Despite nearing their eighth year in the idol industry, DREAMCATCHER members remained full of new dreams and goals.

“I hope the moves for ‘JUSTICE’ are seen a lot on social media and short-form content as ‘dance challenges,'” said Yoohyeon.
