Nine S. Koreans rescued from Nepal floods return home

Nine out of the 10 South Koreans who were safely rescued after being initially stranded following massive flooding in Nepal returned home Monday, their company said.

Doosan Enerbility said nine of its employees who were rescued from flood-stricken areas in Nepal arrived in South Korea around 2 p.m.

They underwent health checks immediately upon arrival and then returned home, with none suffering from health problems severe enough to require hospitalization.

They were examined immediately upon their arrival and then went home, with none of them having health issues severe enough to require hospitalization.

“The nine employees are physically and mentally exhausted after experiencing a sudden disaster and being stranded,” the company said.

The remaining employee, the site manager, stayed behind to support search and rescue operations, it added.

The 10 employees, who were working on the construction of a hydropower plant in Nepal’s Rasuwa district, had been stranded in the area following a massive flash flood and mudslide that struck the area Wednesday.

Nine of the 10 were transported by a Nepalese military helicopter to a safer area Thursday, while the site manager evacuated the following day.

Separately, nine other South Koreans — six Doosan employees and three employees of state-run Korea South-East Power Co. — remain unaccounted for.

Doosan Enerbility said it is doing its utmost to search for the missing employees.
