What's next for 'Teach You a Lesson' star Kim Moo-yul?

From slapping troublemakers to saving lives, Kim lines up his next projects

Kim Moo-yul, one of the most charismatic screen presences of the first half of 2026 with his signature brand of justice in Netflix’s megahit “Teach You a Lesson,” is returning to the small screen.

The streamer recently confirmed that Kim will star alongside veteran actress Lee Jung-eun in the upcoming revenge thriller “The Shooter” (working title). The series centers on Jeong Suk-ja (Lee), a woman in her 70s who runs a restaurant and raised her grandson on her own. When her grandson is mysteriously attacked and left fighting for his life, Suk-ja picks up a gun to seek justice and uncover the criminal organization behind the assault.

In “The Shooter,” Kim is set to play Seo Yeon-woo, a mysterious mastermind who guides Suk-ja through her quest for revenge. Approaching her as she grapples with grief, Yeon-woo reveals a connection between her grandson’s attack and the powerful Cheonghwa Group. Armed with extensive access to information, he helps steer Suk-ja’s actions while seemingly harboring motives of his own.

Netflix has yet to announce a release date for the series.

In addition to “The Shooter,” Kim is set to reunite with Hong Jong-chan, the director of “Teach You a Lesson,” for another Netflix original, “First Doctor.” This medical drama unfolds within a struggling pediatric surgery department, where professor Heo Ji-wan (Jung Ryeo-won) fights to save her young patients and keep her department afloat.

Kim steps into the role of Bae Su-wol, an easygoing and approachable professor of anesthesiology and pain medicine. Sharing a long-standing history with Ji-wan, Su-wol acts as an anchor during her turbulent return to the medical frontlines.

Looking further ahead, Kim is also in talks to headline the upcoming SBS drama “Mr. Barcode.” The potential role would see him return to action as a special ops agent, echoing the crime-fighting energy of his character Hwa-jin from “Teach You a Lesson.”

The series follows a top-tier operative whose life hits a sudden pivot when he discovers he has a daughter and simultaneously loses his job. Starting fresh as a convenience store owner, he uses his new business as a front to continue taking down the city’s criminals.
