A nurse working at an emergency room resuscitated a woman suffering from cardiac arrest during a swimming class in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, officials at the hospital where she works at said Friday.
Nurse Jeong Eun-ah of the Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital was waiting for her class when she saw a woman in her 50s fall unconscious in the water. The woman was immediately taken out of the water, but her heart had stopped,
Jeong stepped in to provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, opening the airway and using the swimming pool’s defibrillator to revive Kim. Kim’s pulse came back, and she was taken to the hospital by emergency workers who arrived at the scene soon afterward.
The patient was treated at the ER of the Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital, and made full recovery. The hospital staff said Kim visited the hospital to thank the woman in person, a few years after being released.
“Early responses in medical emergencies can determine the patient’s prognosis, so I immediately conducted emergency measures to save a person’s life,” Jeong said, who has worked in the hospital’s ER for five years.
