Ferrari’s first EV Luce makes Korea debut with Samsung OLED cockpit

Italian carmaker Ferrari unveiled its first electric sports car, the Ferrari Luce, in South Korea on Monday, highlighting the model’s high-performance electric powertrain and advanced display technology developed in collaboration with Samsung Display.

Ferrari Korea presented the Luce at a media event at its showroom in Cheongdam-dong, southern Seoul, offering a first look at the vehicle in the Korean market.

The Luce, which made its global debut in May, marks a new chapter in Ferrari’s shift toward electrification. Having built its reputation on gasoline-powered supercars, the Italian luxury automaker is framing its debut electric vehicle not as a substitute for an internal combustion model, but as an attempt to expand the brand’s potential through electrification.

Ferrari Korea President and Representative Director Thibault Dussarrat said the Luce reflects what the company sees as Korean customers’ expectations of the Ferrari brand.

“I believe Korea expects more from Ferrari than just another sports car. You look for authentic culture and lifestyle, innovation and an emotional connection with the brand,” Dussarrat said, highlighting South Korea as an important market for the Italian carmaker.

The five-seater Luce is powered by four electric motors, one for each wheel. Paired with a 122-kilowatt-hour battery using high-performance nickel-manganese-cobalt cells supplied by South Korean battery maker SK On, the powertrain delivers a maximum range of 530 kilometers on a single charge. The car boasts an output of 1,050 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 2.5 seconds.

The Luce’s design and interior interface were developed in collaboration with LoveFrom, the creative studio led by former Apple design chief Jony Ive and industrial designer Marc Newson. Ferrari said the partnership focused on creating a minimalist exterior and interior characterized by clean, precise forms.

The cabin also features an OLED display system jointly developed with Samsung Display.

Samsung Display supplied four types of OLED panels for the vehicle, including 12-inch (305 millimeters) and 12.9-inch displays integrated into a multilayer dashboard configuration, a 10.1-inch OLED panel and a 6.3-inch display for rear-seat passengers.

The collaboration involved around four years of development, during which Samsung Display created three large circular openings in the OLED panel, each measuring about 100 millimeters in diameter — a first-of-its-kind design for an automotive OLED display.

“Those three holes may look simple, but from a display perspective, this product represents a significant technological innovation,” Lim Ji-soo, a marketing manager at Samsung Display, said during the presentation.

Ferrari has begun taking orders for the Luce, with customer deliveries in Korea expected to begin next year, according to a Ferrari Korea official.

Following Monday’s media preview, Ferrari Korea will hold private viewing events for customers at its Cheongdam showroom from Wednesday through Sept. 13 and at its Busan showroom from Sept. 29 through Oct. 4.
