Rep. Song Seog-jun, a People Power Party lawmaker who is the chair of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, met with Ramin Hasanov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to South Korea, on Tuesday.
Song and Hasanov discussed Azerbaijan’s geopolitical significance in the wake of the armed conflicts in neighboring countries Russia, Ukraine and Iran, ways to foster bilateral cooperation in the field of South Korea’s infrastructure construction in Azerbaijan, and South Korea’s potential role in Azerbaijan’s demining mission.
The two also expressed hopes for a more active cultural exchange between their two countries. Some 250 foreign students in South Korea are from Azerbaijan, according to Hasanov.
Song, a three-term lawmaker, assumed the chair post in late July. Since then, he has also met with Japan’s Ambassador to South Korea Koichi Mizushima and New Zealand’s Ambassador to South Korea Dawn Bennett.
