Kyungpook National University rolls out AI degree with Samsung job track

Kyungpook National University said Thursday it would launch a new employment-linked contract major with Samsung Electronics to train specialists in mobile engineering and advanced artificial intelligence technologies.

The university will reorganize its existing undergraduate Mobile Engineering program into a combined bachelor’s-master’s track called Mobile AI Engineering and begin recruiting students for the 2027 academic year.

The program will admit a total of 20 students.

Housed under KNU’s School of Electronics Engineering, the new major will integrate a four-year bachelor’s program and a two-year master’s program, allowing students to earn both degrees in as little as five years.

The curriculum will focus on mobile AI software and include internships at Samsung Electronics. Students who meet designated requirements will be offered employment at the company upon graduation.

Students will receive full tuition scholarships for their first three years. Those who pass Samsung Electronics’ recruitment process and maintain a grade-point average of at least 3.0 during their fourth and fifth years will be eligible for additional Samsung-funded scholarships.

The university will provide priority access to dormitories and support housing and meal costs.

Students will also be offered opportunities to attend major global technology exhibitions including CES, Mobile World Congress and IFA. KNU said it would support expenses related to presentations at domestic and international academic conferences, journal publications and competitions.

“KNU, as a flagship national university, aims to strengthen its partnership with Samsung Electronics and cultivate core talent in advanced AI technologies in the Daegu-North Gyeongsang Province region,” KNU President Heo Young-woo said.
